In El Salvador, 43% of the population face precarious living conditions and 19% live in extreme poverty. In rural areas, comprising 55.8% of the total population, young people are barred from access to vocational training and decent employment poverty, high school dropout rates and a lack of education and employment coverage.

With its projects Fundación del Valle has contributed to improving opportunities for the social-vocational integration of more than 1,000 young people from the poorest municipalities in the country by providing classes, training, engineering workshops and job placement services to set up micro-enterprises.

What does the project involve?

The project aims promote the educational inclusion for girls and boys in pre-school age who are out of school in the village of El Carrizal, Canton El Jicaro, Municipality of Tacuba, where only 47% of the population in age to attend nursery school is registered.

What does the project involve?

The objective of this project is to improve access to education and consumption of healthy food for 200 students of the School Cuesta del Gavilán located in municipality of Tacuba. Besides, the goal is to expand the educational infrastructure and to improve conditions for the provision of school food, as well as to strengthen capabilities in nutrition, hygiene and healthy food preparation in the educational community.

SOCIAL IMPACT

Over 200 students have assisted to the inauguration of the new classrooms of their school in municipality of Tacuba, El Salvador. The event was attended by more than 70 people, including children, principals, teachers and school staff, parents of students, the director of the departmental Education Tacuba, ADIC and other representatives of municipal associations, the representative association of parents and Miguel Rico, technician on the field of Fundación del Valle. Attendees stressed the importance of promoting student access to school and the importance of the role of mothers and fathers in the progressive education of children.

What does the project involve?

Contribute to improving the living conditions of low-income women in the municipality of San Bartolomé Perulapía through technical training / business. Siramá, in coordination with local authorities of the municipality, implement job training programs and business counseling for the development of productive activities and / or job placement allowing an increase in income of the beneficiaries.

Strengthen the institutional capacity of local partners from the Fundación del Valle in El Salvador (CIDEP, CORDES, ADIC and SIRAMA) through a course to improve the technical skills of staff.

What does the project involve?

To provide informal occupational training to 60 women in vulnerable economic situations, so that they will be able to engage in a productive activity, generating income to support themselves and their family.

What does the project involve?

To improve the quality of education at the "Los Orantes" Education Centre through the construction and equipping of 3 classrooms with the provision of adequate environmental processes that create effective teaching-learning to 391 students (198 girls and 193 boys ) and 8 teachers (5 women and 4 men).

Social impact

The Project of 'Los Orantes' school, that will beneficiate over 400 students, has concluded with the repair of three existing classrooms, the construction and equipment of a new one, the improvement in the channeling of water and the construction of a retaining wall to enlarge the area of school grounds in order to allow more construction in the future.

At the opening of the new school facilities, that took place on 26 July, there were more than 120 people including children and parents of students, the principal and teachers at the school as well as three directors of other schools in the municipality, the director of the Department of Education, an adviser to the Ministry of Education, Father Miguel (member of ADIC) and Miguel Rico, technician of Fundación del Valle in El Salvador.

During the ceremony, participants highlighted the importance of this project that will expand educational coverage to children from 4 to 6 years. They also wanted to note the importance of international cooperation and the need to continue working in this direction, because unfortunately there are few schools in the municipality who have children in preschool classrooms.

What does the project involve?

To ensure access to education and improve education with the provision of 80 scholarships to high school students in extreme poverty, 50 scholarships to children at basic level and 200 children at the preschool level. Continuing training will also be provided in different areas to 60 teachers from 30 schools and with literacy provided to 160 people.

What does the project involve?

To strengthen local capacities to ensure the educational rights of children, young people and adults residing in the beneficiary communities. The project will benefit 950 boys and girls, 250 young people with high school scholarships, 120 young people in occupational training, 150 young people in youth organization and training. Providing training to these young people and increasing their chances of entering into employment has a clear impact in preventing the expansion of gangs. In addition to the 1,200 children who have attended school, 60 teachers have been trained and 400 adults instructed in literacy. The project will train 1500 parents, motivating them to keep their children at school.

What does the project involve?

To expand and improve educational infrastructure in Sisiguayo education centre, Guajoyo education centre and Instituto Tecnológico de Tecoluca, improved access to schools for 160 pre-school children and 950 young people at basic and middle-level. The quality of education has been improved in 9 Child Development Centres (CDI) and 23 schools through teacher training.

What does the project involve?

Through this project we strive to strengthen local capacities to ensure the educational rights of children, young people and adults residing in the beneficiary communities of the Municipality of Zacatecoluca, Department of La Paz. Likewise access to micro credit has been improved for those who have successfully participated in the process of occupational training.

SOCIAL IMPACT

With this project, at least 650 children in poverty are kept active in education and have improved their academic performance. In addition, 90 young (60% women) have improved their occupational training and they have a better chance of entering into the labor market.

What does the project involve?

To construct and equip a school with welding, carpentry and electricity workshops, so that young people without secondary education can improve their skills and capabilities and so enhance their opportunities of employment and social inclusion in communities of the Municipality of Tecoluca, breaking the cycle of poverty in which they find themselves. This will enable their participation in local development processes of the Municipality of Tecoluca.
